Onion Bhaja/Pakora

A deep fried savory snack which is always a hit with my family and friends. These are my crispy bites of heaven, once you have one you won't be able to stop yourself from having more!

mauritian onion bhaja

Ingredients

2 large onions - sliced

Salt - ½ tsp

Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp

Red chili powder - ½ tsp

Garam masala powder - ½ tsp

2 Green chilies - finely chopped

Corriander - 1 tbsp, chopped

Gramflour - 1 cup

Water - as needed

Oil - for deep frying

Method

• Slice onions thinly. Put in a bowl, add salt, turmeric, red chili powder, chilies and corriander.

• Mix them together and rest for 15 minutes

• Add gramflour to the onions and mix well. Add water, a little at a time, to make a thick batter.

• Heat oil in a large pan on a medium heat. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil flipping them over to cook on all sides. Remove and place on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Serve your onion pakora hot, with a dip of your choice, we chose Raita, a yogurt sauce with mint and cucumber!

ENJOY! 💛🍽️
