Here are 3 things happening in Mauritius this week!
1) Rodrigues begins vaccinations against Covid-19, starting with frontline workers
20 frontline workers in Rodrigues have already had their vaccinations, with several receiving training for when the island of 41,000 people will need to receive in their jabs in the near future.
Rodrigues has had no known reported cases of Covid-19.
Kan tackles this by building musical instruments from discarded items through a process known as upcycling. He also visits schools to spread a message that everyday citizens can make a big difference and that no action is too small when it comes to preserving their island paradise.
2) 22 years after his death, Mauritians honour Kaya with a peaceful walk and music session
Joseph Réginald Topize, the Mauritian singer and the creator of the seggae, died 22 years ago on 21st February in police custody. Honouring his life on the anniversary of his death, mourners visited his graveside, while singing prayers and seggae.
3) India to supply $100 million worth of defence equipment to Mauritius under new line of credit pact, in return for smoother entry and expansion for Indian businesses and investors in Mauritius
India and its key Indian Ocean Region partner Mauritius have upgraded their defence and economic partnership by signing a special $100 million pact for supplying defence equipment. The two countries also entered into a comprehensive economic cooperation and partnership agreement (CECPA) that will enable smooth entry of Indian businesses to the African continent.
