Here are 3 things happening in Mauritius this week!

1) Rama Valyden, former Attorney General of Mauritius, and two others are detained for organising and participating in a peaceful protest in support of Palestine.

Rama Valyden, former Attorney General of Mauritius Jockey was arrested from his home at 2am on Monday morning, and detained without apparent reason. He had organised a peaceful protest in Port Louis, to show Mauritian solidarity with Palestine.

2) Jockey Nooresh Juglall dies after being thrown from horse during a race at Champs de Mars. An judicial inquiry into his death will be launched.

Nooresh Juglall, a 30-year-old jockey, has died after a fall at the Champ de Mars course on the opening day of the season which was behind closed doors due to Covid-19 restrictions. A horse who was involved in the accident has been euthanised. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Mauritius has announced an investigation into Saturday's fatal fall of 2020 champion jockey, asking "Was there negligence regarding the track's condition or was it a pure accident?"

3) Ministry of Education looking to incorporate Kreol Morisien into the syllabus for Grade 10 students from next year
